Before it becomes music, sound is signal. A fluctuation in air pressure captured by a transducer, converted to voltage, sampled thousands of times per second, encoded as binary, transmitted across copper and fiber, decoded, amplified, and released back into air.
This chain of transformations—the technical substrate of modern communication—is also the hidden architecture of electronic music.
Sirsinate Sound Laboratory is a music production studio organized around a simple premise: sound has character. Each instrument, each signal path, each processing chain carries its own voice—not merely a set of frequencies, but a quality of presence, a way of occupying space and time.
The studio's work is one of sounding depths—exploring the immersive, transformative power of audio as a medium of emotional transmission. Sound reshapes perception. It expands consciousness, collapses distance, makes the absent present. To work with sound is to work with the very architecture of experience, to understand that what we hear shapes how we inhabit the world.
The name Sirsinate derives from circinate vernation—the spiral unfurling of a fern frond, new growth emerging from the protective enclosure of what came before. This is the shape of work here: nurturing, evolutionary, organic exploration conducted through synthetic means. Each project coils outward from its predecessors, carrying forward what was learned while reaching toward new light.
Voices
The studio houses a carefully curated collection of electronic instruments spanning five decades of synthesizer development, from analog voltage-controlled oscillators to contemporary hybrid architectures.
Vintage analog synthesis is represented by instruments from the late 1970s and early 1980s—polyphonic synthesizers that defined the sound of an entire cinematic vocabulary of futurism and transcendence, alongside semi-modular instruments capable of both aggressive and evolving textures.
Digital and hybrid instruments extend this palette into territories analog synthesis cannot reach. Signal processing is treated not as post-production but as integral to composition—hardware reverbs, delays, and multi-effects units shape sound in ways that embody specific design decisions and constraints.
Recording infrastructure centers on quality conversion and preamps, chosen for their combination of technical transparency and musical warmth. A flexible routing system allows any instrument to be processed through any effect, enabling experimental signal chains and real-time timbral exploration.
Current
The studio is operated by vigorish, an artist whose path to electronic music production runs through an unlikely territory: telecommunications engineering.
A decade spent working with voice and data networks—911 systems, carrier infrastructure, the technical plumbing of human connection at scale—provided an intimate understanding of how sound becomes signal and signal becomes sound again.
This biographical context shapes the aesthetic orientation of the studio, which treats the technical apparatus of sound reproduction not as neutral machinery but as a creative medium with its own possibilities and constraints.
